Kings Castle Kennels

The Castle Dream

Hello and welcome to King’s Castle Kennels. My name is Jennifer King. I started my career at Challenger K-9 kennels where my parents own and operate a boarding and training facility. At a young age I had a natural ability with animals in caring, training, and rehabilitation. I worked for wildlife rescue as a junior Ranger in Plumas National Forest for a number of years as a child and young adult. Training and riding horses has been a passion of mine since I was a child too. I’ve been involved with numerous horse riding competitions and functions over my life and have been blessed to be able to continue that tradition with my youngest daughter. I started training dogs for Yuba County Sheriffs department K-9 unit in the 1990’s and also administered group and private obedience lessons. Positive reward training to clients back then was unfamiliar. The days of jumping on a wild horse and riding them to death or submission, or rubbing a dogs nose in its business when it soiled in the wrong place was a concept I felt was cruel and inhumane. I felt that a positive, encouraging reward system achieved a better canine companion. I moved to San Diego California from Northern California in 1994 and started my internship as a groomer for Beatrice Gwinner at Mission Valley Kennels. I continued my obedience training and did some volunteer work as a vet tech at Mission Valley Veterinary clinic. Over the years my career opportunities expanded and I had the pleasure of becoming a concierge at a large hotel and resort in San Diego. This was a great experience. I learned a lot about San Diego, client interaction and how to provide top notch customer service. During this time I still trained dogs for friends and family. I dreamed that one day I would open my own training facility. In 2001 my husband and I made that dream turn into a reality. We bought property out in Lake Morena, California where we built some beautiful kennels. We are a small family run business where we love and enjoy all animals of all kinds. My husband and I opened King’s Castle Kennels in 2001. We launched our Showing, Breeding and Training program in Parson Russell Terriers. In 2007 added we added a Grooming and Day Spa to our facility. We are excited for the community and feel that our services will be an asset for all pet lovers. I want to thank my mentors for all the knowledge, guidance and friendship that they have given me.
